How Meditation Can Transform Your Life

In the ancient Indian scriptures, many truths were revealed which are still applicable to our day and time. One of the Vedic seers spoke beautifully about a bird flying over the land. The bird flies towards jagged mountains, and not knowing what lies beyond them, senses tremendous fear and doubt. As the bird flies higher, however, the more it can see. Beyond the mountains the bird discovers beautiful tranquil lakes, lush forests of trees laden with fruits, and vast lands and oceans beyond.

Quenching the Fire Within

There in the lucky dark, None to observe me, darkness far and wide. No sign for me to mark - No other light, no guide -- Except for my heart, the fire, the fire inside. St. John of the Cross What do you want? What do you really want? There is a fire that burns inside each of us - a fire that can t be quenched with knowledge of the intellectual sort, that can only be satisfied by resolving deep within our being the Big Question: Who What am I?

Gratitude and Awe

So happy just to be alive, underneath this sky of blue. -- Bob Dylan, New Morning Gratitude is what we naturally feel when our heart is open. In my life long interest for opening my heart mind I have explored many different and varied paths to wholeness. For a few months a number of years ago, I practiced Tibetan Buddhism. Each morning, I would arise and sit in meditation for a few minutes to get centered in myself, and then I would contemplate the precious opportunity I had to engage in a spiritual practice that had the potential for liberating my being.

Meditation Made Simple

When I was 8 years old, my family was living in a basement in Queens, New York. Recently migrated from Trinidad to pursue his degree in music, my father quickly found out that the land of milk and honey was not all that it was told to be, and it was more all at the same time. It was at this time that I was introduced to yoga and meditation. As an 8 year old, this is how I was taught to meditate.

Meditation And Relaxation - An Exercise In Healing, Light Meditation

For many people meditation is very much more than simply an exercise in relaxation and focus, but is very much a religious experience. Indeed many people believe, quite wrongly as it happens, that meditation is a form of religious practice which must follow a prescribed form and be practiced only in connection with matters of religion or spirituality. In fact meditation can be used for a variety of different purposes and in many different situations and how you choose to use your own particular form of meditation, and in what circumstances, is very much a personal matter.

Simply Meditation

It is important that our practice can be done comfortably all day in a busy world, not only when we are sitting formally in meditation. Being able to meditate all day long is what will eventually merge our consciousness, from the I thought -- into God, Pure Mind, Reality, or however we wish to phrase it. It is what we truly search for. 1. Before you can meditate all day long, you must first practice by sitting quietly - to get the idea.

Why Meditate?

Body - Computer Hardware... Feelings, thoughts - Software... Influenced Mind - Operator... Pure Mind, God, or Reality - Programmer The body, or physical existence, has sense organs... Meditation And Relaxation - An Exercise In Journey Meditation

One common form of meditation involves you in visualizing a location, perhaps from your childhood, in which you have been particularly happy and at peace. You are in effect going to take a trip in your mind that will leave you feeling peaceful and stress-free. As you become more practiced, you will find that you can use this exercise during moments of your day when you need to handle high-stress situations.

Personal Transformations

The last time I looked, personal transformation was not on America s top ten list of achievements. Success, family, happiness, friends, wealth, respect, health, religious beliefs or spirituality, satisfying work - these took priority. Our spiritual institutions follow suit with the most successful and prestigious requiring little of their flock as far as personal introspection is concerned. The prevailing ambiance is one of levity, music and celebration - seldom one of self-inquiry.

Resolving Conflict

What we extend outward toward others, we internalize. Whether the emotions are negative, such as hatred, animosity, and anger or positive, such as love, forgiveness, and peace, these feelings seep inside of us and affect us deeply, both emotionally and physically. You can feel the physical difference between, on one hand, hating someone, and on the other, forgiving someone. One is restricted and one is spacious, and our body reacts accordingly with feelings of stress or feelings of ease.
